Resolving movement into form
This IDE module was concerned with designing and fabricating a chair. I was interested in how we see chairs as static objects, whereas the chair, throughout its life, is a dynamic and turbulent thing. But we never see it as such; what we see are three-dimensional slices of a four-dimensional object, giving the illusion of stasis. In Vibrant Matter, Jane Bennett describes how "the becoming of objects happens at a speed below the level of human discernment". So this module became, for me, a discussion of how we can represent this "becoming".
I was initially inspired by long exposure photography of birds, revealing the traces they've left through time, and looked to form a chair in this language.
